Wilt Thou Be Made Whole?

O' The Love of Jesus!
John 5: 1-15
written by pastor Freddie L Beard

1. The Messiah/Deliverer,
and The City of Peace.     vs. 1-2

    A. Few recognized the "glorious visitation" that day.
  • (when Jesus passes by miracles happen)
  • Imagine - this feast day which was a shadow of the God/man Christ Jesus. And no one flocking around Him!
  • (religious activity often goes on without little consideration as to what it is for)
    B. He came to a certain place, Bethesda -
  • Bethesda = "house of mercy" or "flowing water"
1) the name of a pool near the sheep-gate at Jerusalem, whose waters had curative powers
  • The place of expectancy.(waiting on the waters) vs. 3-4
    C. He saw the great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered laying "waiting for the moving of the waters".
  • (even as today many look to earthly means when they aught to seek Jesus their healer)

2. The Certain impo-tent man.
(We all are important to God - little spin on the word "impotent")

    A. Jesus saw him there.                       vs. 6
    B. Jesus knew his condition better than he did. 38 years of paralysis (couldn't move enough, or fast enough to get into the waters)
  •          He also knows you, your pain, your situation,
your desires to be made whole.

    C. Jesus asked him ONE question!
"WILT thou be MADE WHOLE" ? vs.6
  •   this speaks of Christ as the answer to all of mankind,
  •   And every issue.
    D. The impo-tent man answered the LORD.
  •  While he knew his weakness...
" while I am coming, another steppeth down before me".
  •  He knew he could not depend upon man...
" I have no man".
  •     He as yet did not know He was in for one of the greatest things in his life. (he was talking to JESUS) -
  •      miracles happen in the name of Jesus!
    E. "Jesus said unto him: Rise, take up thy bed, and walk".                                                         vs. 8
    F. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the Sabbath.                                                     vs. 9
  •         You must OBEY what THE LORD Says to you!  - -
Like Naaman of old -       Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.               2 Kings 5:14

3. When God Touches you, You better be ready to stand upon the "LORDS WORD".
        A. Immediately after Jesus touched him, religious people tried to hinder his faith.                              vs.11
    - (we WRESTLE NOT against flesh, and blood) Eph.6:12
        B. He countered the devil with"what the LORD said do".
  •             "rise take up thy bed and walk".  vs. 8
        C. The real issue was JESUS, It was He they had issue with. Man wants glory, and especially in religious matters.
        D. They grilled him to find "who the man was" that told him to do such a thing on the Sabbath day. vs. 12
        E. The man could not answer these people as to "who this man was",
  • but Jesus no doubt watched him and his new life.
  • (surly a child of God will feel the pressure from many ways, such as organized religion to give some man glory but our allegiance is to Jesus alone).                    vs. 13
F Jesus later "found the man", and warned him... "Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee".                                          vs. 14
  • Not only could he "lose" his healing,
  • But something greater would come upon him.
  • Lukewarm Christians are a breeding ground of die-ease, and torment, solely upon the grounds of sinning willfully.
  • see also Heb.10:26
        G. He went forth preaching Jesus. The "whole" man went back and told the "enquirers" who had Touched him.                 JESUS!                                    vs. 15
  • We too must give glory to the LORD, and ....
  • Not be ashamed, or ...
  • Walk in sin any more.                         John 8:11

4. Jesus is Still the Great Physician,
            Still touching impo-tent folk.

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day,and for ever.        Hbr 13:8

    A. Jesus told His church to Go forth and...
  • preach the Gospel that makes impo-tent people "whole" !
This message is to ...
  • the lost, So that they can be found!
  • the sick, So they can be well!
  • the impotent, So that they can receive strength!
  • the withered, That the might be be revived!
  • the brokenhearted, To heal the pains of life!
  • the depressed, To bring them joy!
  • the oppressed, To be set free!
  • the dis-eased, To be healed!
  • the religious, To find God in spirit and in truth!
  • the hungry, To feed their starving souls!
  • the thirsty. To quint the deepest thirst!
    B. How are we made whole? the Bible says Healing is the "children's bread",
  •      One must be saved, to be made whole. Jesus said...

  •  I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.            John 6:51
    C. The Lord commands faith. without faith it is impossible to please God. But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

                                                                   Hbr 11:6
     D. Ask Him. He knows already but says,
  • yet ye have not, because ye ask not.                                                                                             James 4:2
    E. Believe when you pray, ask God for big things.
  • But Jesus beheld [them], and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.                                            Mat 19:26
.. even ABOVE that which you are able to ask, or think...          Ephesians 3:20        WOW!
    F. Remember to return and give God thanks.
  • This speaks of a LIFE sold out to Christ Jesus.
  • Luke 17:17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?  18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.  19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

  • Keep your faith in God all the way to the end. Remembering to be a faithful worshiper of God.

... and they over came him (Satan) by blood of the LAMB, and the word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives unto the death...
                                Revelation 12:11

  • Bow your heads please.
  • Who would be made whole?
  • Who's heart is broken and needs the LORD to mend it as only He can?
  • Who feels that they are missing something?
  • Who is sick and needs the touch of the Master's hand?
  • Who this morning needs the greatest healing, the gift of salvation, Call on Jesus right now, ask Him to save you, repent of your sins, ask God to give you that new heart promised to His children.  AMEN
